THE ROAD TO NET ZERO

It hasn’t been easy… in fact, it’s been three years of hard work, but every step on our road to net zero has brought huge benefits to our local environment.

Being a Net Zero company isn’t just a case of tossing a can in the right recycling bin, it governs every aspect of the work that we do on a daily basis. As you’ll read, everything from the products that we buy, the vehicles that we drive and the climate initiatives that we fund are chosen extremely carefully, with our carbon footprint as our first consideration.

OUR EURO 6 FLEET

As a rule – no old bangers here (well, except for a few members of the senior management team!).

You’ll see our vehicles on their journeys to property surveys and our projects around cities like Sheffield, York and Leeds. But, you won’t see an Allerton vehicle which is more than 4 years old… ever. Why? Simply because newer vehicles burn fuel more efficiently and cleaner than their older counterparts. Plus, each of our vehicles conforms to a regular testing and servicing regime to keep them at the peak of their game

Ultimately, new vehicles emit fewer harmful substances into the air and are an obvious choice for any climate-first business. Plus, they look good too, right?

Naturally, our fleet will transition to hybrid and fully-electric vehicles when the technology matches our customer’s requirements. Until then, what carbon we emit through our fleet will always be mitigated by our clean energy and habitat restoration projects.

HABITAT RESTORATION IN YORKSHIRE

This year, our Carbon Reduction Fund has supported local habitat restoration projects which aim to reinstate the natural environment where it has been lost, by planting wildflowers and creating wetlands, fostering biodiversity and wildlife habitats. With our support, these projects bring together local communities and landowners to implement conservation efforts across Yorkshire.

By reintroducing native plant species and enhancing water features, these projects seek to mitigate carbon emissions, improve air quality, and provide essential ecosystems services. Through collective action, these initiatives strive to preserve and enhance natural landscapes while addressing ecological challenges and promoting sustainability.

Our climate promise

Whenever you place an order with us, you can be assured that your project will have a net carbon zero effect. That means that either the carbon cost of delivering the work will have been neutralised at source or offset via our decarbonisation initiatives or our funding of decarbonisation schemes. So, why wait? Let’s tackle damp in a way which doesn’t cost the earth… and doesn’t cost the earth!

CLEAN ENERGY PROJECTS IN INDONESIA

Our Clean Energy Fund has this year supported a project in Indonesia which focuses on installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to generate clean energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. By harnessing solar power, it aims to mitigate carbon emissions and combat climate change while improving access to sustainable energy in local communities.

Through partnerships with local organizations and businesses, the initiative facilitates the adoption of renewable energy technologies, contributing to environmental conservation and economic development. Additionally, it provides opportunities for education and training in renewable energy, empowering communities to transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future while fostering social and environmental benefits.

RESTORING BLUE CARBON ECOSYSTEMS

This year, our Carbon Reduction Fund has supported projects focused on restoring blue carbon ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, and tidal marshes to mitigate climate change and preserve biodiversity. Through reforestation and conservation efforts, these projects aim to enhance carbon sequestration, protect coastal areas from erosion, and support marine habitats.

Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders, the initiative implements sustainable practices and empowers coastal communities with livelihood opportunities. By restoring these vital ecosystems, the project contributes to climate resilience, ecosystem health, and community well-being while raising awareness about the importance of blue carbon ecosystems in mitigating climate change and preserving coastal environments for future generations.

See? Not all damp‘s a bad thing!

WE FUND CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

We are funding partners with Ecologi, the UK’s leading climate funding platform. Our partnership enables us to ensure that we make a positive climate impact not just in Yorkshire, but all over the world too!

The fight against climate change is a global one. It doesn’t matter how well we fight this battle at home, if the rest of the world is left behind, we all suffer the consequences. This is why we spread our funding across the globe to places where it can make the biggest impact on climate change.

In addition to our many local climate projects, our funding has helped restore biodiversity in Brazil, prevented deforestation in Peru, reinstated peatland in Indonesia and planted new forest in Mozambique.
