What effect does damp have on my home?

Because damp is often a slow-working problem, by the time you notice it and get in contact with damp proofers it can have already caused significant problems to your property. This goes beyond what you can see with your naked eye. Damp affects the internal structure of your wall: as moisture is absorbed, material can gradually break down, especially materials such as plaster. You might notice plaster begin to crack or crumble as a result of damp.

It also leads to problems with keeping your home warm. Damp walls lose their insulating properties, resulting not just in a struggle to keep the heat in, but also making your home colder. You might find you’re using more energy, and therefore spending more money, to heat your home – and with less effect.

What effect does damp have on my me?

Damp can cause problems for people’s health too. Not only do colder homes affect health, but damp in the home often leads to the air becoming humid, creating a suitable environment for mould to grow. When humid air and mould spores are inhaled, it can affect your respiratory system. Damp is known to aggravate asthma, particularly in children and adolescents.

Damp homes are more susceptible to the growth of mould. Fungal microbes need a damp environment in order to grow so if your Tadcaster home needs damp proofing, you might notice an increased amount of mould on walls, ceilings or even in your cupboards. Black mould, in particular, can cause serious health problems including wheezing, coughing, itchy eyes, fatigue and headaches. (Find out more about how damp and mould can affect your health.)

Allerton Damp tackle both rising and penetrating damp, among other associated services – including the treatment of woodworm and condensation. If you want to improve your home and protect your health, then don’t hesitate: get in touch today.

Damp Treatments we use

Allerton ALL DAMP DPC Gun
CHEMICAL DAMP PROOF COURSE

Our chemical damp proof course, exclusive to the ALLDAMP range, is suitable for most properties throughout Tadcaster. The intelligent damp treatment can be applied retrospectively and adds a water-resistant layer between your building’s brickwork.

When installed by Allerton we can guarantee its effectiveness for 20 years.

RENDER ADDITIVE

A specially-formulated render additive which acts as a water inhibitor and plasticiser. When carrying out plastering inside homes, our staff use ALLDAMP Render Additive, turning their plasterwork into a damp proof barrier to future water ingress.

ALLDAMP Render Additive is used in most Allerton repair projects. With this system, homeowners can redecorate and furnish with the confidence that damp will not return in future.

DAMP PROOFING MEMBRANE

A specially-designed wall covering, which creates a damp proof surface over which plasterboard and plaster can be applied. The ALLDAMP damp proofing membrane creates a damp proof barrier and cavity between the existing brickwork and wall surface, preventing future damp penetration.

ALLDAMP Damp Proofing Membrane is an incredibly versatile product which is suitable for use above and below ground. It is our go-to product for carrying out basement waterproofing projects.

FOUND DAMP?

Act now

When you spot damp, you need to act. The longer damp is left to develop, the worse its effects, and the more time and money it takes to sort it out. Any source of damp, be it rising or penetrating, can cause serious damage. It can rot timber flooring or damage your décor.

Our team are standing by to answer your questions. They’re friendly and they’ll guide you in plain English, no technical jargon guaranteed!

Allerton were exceptional at keeping in touch with me from the first phone call, right through to the quality control visit after work was completed. All the team were friendly, professional and ensured the disruption to the rest of my home whilst works were ongoing were kept to a minimum. They cleaned the site daily and ensured we were happy with progress throughout the project. Pleasure to work with.

Allerton’s carried out damp treatment work on our property. They were quick, efficient and tidy. Changes to our requirements were dealt with well and nothing was too much trouble. Indeed we appreciated the hassle free way we were dealt with, the fixed quote with no “hidden extras” or later additional costs that we weren’t expecting. A great service and good work.

Very professional and reliable company to deal with, after being let down by others not turning up, it was refreshing to deal with Allerton, from arriving to survey and quote through to the finished job. The team of two who carried out the work, were very professional, polite and friendly and did a great job of the work itself and cleaning up afterwards.

Me and my partner cannot recommend Allerton enough. From day 1 they were professional and the level of communication from the start of the job to the final day was exceptional. Constant messages asking questions and for reassurance. A great Company for all damp proofing works but also for the additional works as well, like plastering, boarding, electrics etc.

FAQs

How much does damp proofing cost?

The cost of damp proofing in Tadcaster varies a lot according to your property and the extent of the damage already caused by the damp. If damp has spread through a large area, it will cost more to fix. When you get in touch with Allerton Damp, we’ll send over one of our qualified Surveyors to look at your property and they will be able to provide you with an accurate quote. We’re not into hidden surprises, so we’ll always let you know the price before the work starts.

How long does damp proofing take?

The time it takes to complete damp proofing work is dependant upon the size of the project. Every home and building is different, but when you get a survey of your property we’ll provide you with an approximate time frame. We don’t want to waste your time or intrude on your space for longer than necessary, so always work to get the job done as quickly as possible without compromising on high-quality work. A small project can take as little as 2-5 days.
